Sandokai members raise over £1,500 for Cancer
Charity CLIC Sargent.
Sandokai Karate recently entered the "Once a year
club's" 20th anniversary cycle ride in aid of
CLIC - Cancer and Leukaemia in Children now CLIC
Sargent. The rides started modestly in 1988 with an
annual turn out of around 20 - 25 entrants. This year
however, saw 121 entrants including a pair using a
tandem with a blind entrant at the rear along with 2
"Bananas" one of whom being John White, one
of the forefathers of the event.
The event started at 10am from Helston FC towards Hayle, then onto St Ives which included the infamous hill alongside the Tate Gallery. The route then continued through Gulval into Penzance, back through Marazion along the A394 back into Helston. All in all the route was aimed at approximately 50 miles.
A smaller route through Penrose estate to Low Bar and back to Helston was arranged for kids and lesser able riders. This route was approximately 14 miles.
19 Students, Instructors, friends and family members entered both events and all finished to tell the tell and collect their medal. Events and a BBQ were all laid on for entrants and the public alike and a great day was had by all involved.
Sandokai in total raised a whopping £1,500 (so far) towards the charity with a large donation of £100 coming from the association itself.
