DEMO AT CARHARRACK

Carharrack hosts Sandokai demo
On a dull, overcast and slightly drizzly Cornish summer's day members of Camborne and Devoran Sandokai entertained the public with a demonstration at the Carharrack annual fete. You could not miss us. In the middle of the playing field was the Sandokai trailer with a huge Sandokai logo on either side!

Directed by Sensei Fran Long, the usual aspects of karate were shown with a few notable highlights, including kata performances of Taikyoku by Bradley and a synchronised Sienshin by Alice and Vicky.

Shihan Whale, fed up with commentating, decided to take advantage of the mats and showed some techniques which involved picking up Sempai Collett and bouncing him off the mats. Much to the delight of the audience, Sempai Collett reciprocated in a similar manner!

Afterwards, it was ice creams all round.

While we were packing up Shihan Whale was approached by two of the original members of the Redruth Karate Kai. They had trained with Shihan Whale in the late 1960s and came over to compliment the group on their demo. One of them was Bill Gerrans, who had opened and run the first ever karate club in Cornwall.

Those who took part in the demo were ...

Sensei Anthony Woods
Sensei Fran Long
Sempai Richard Collett
Sempai Jamie Wharram
Sempai Euan Bassey
Peter Helliwell
Alice Helliwell
