GRADING RESULTS NOV. 2008

“Well Done” to those that passed ...
With an 11:00
a.m. kick off the morning’s training focussed on
using body shifting and side steps to avoid injury.
The theme was carried through partner work and ippon
kumite practice.
After a short break the grading panel convened and Shihan Robin Whale, Sensei Kevin Gilbert and Sempai Ann Holmes presided over the grading examination. Regrettably, not everyone passed to their next grade. The panel don’t take the decision to fail a student lightly and they spent more time coming to a decision on those who failed than on the rest of the examinees put together!
Those who were successful were ...
Promoted to 8th Kyu - White Belt
Promoted to 7th Kyu - Yellow Belt
Promoted to 6th Kyu - Orange Belt
Promoted to 5th Kyu - Green Belt
Promoted to 3rd Kyu - Blue Belt
Promoted to 2nd Kyu - Brown Belt
... and a special mention for Sempai Richard Collett who successfully showed due diligence and dedication the pursuit of excellence in the art of Karate-do and was promoted to Nidan - Black Belt 2nd Level. Richard is a respected Instructor at the Camborne and Devoran dojo, and now has three years to learn one new kata and do everything he did today but a whole lot better before his next grading.
And a final couple of thoughts for those who didn’t make it today ...
That which does not kill us makes us stronger.
Friedrich Nietzsche, Philosopher (1844-1900)
Failure is the key to success; each mistake teaches us something.
Morihei Ueshiba, Founder of Aikido (1883-1969)
